Summary/Abstract: The site, located on an oval shaped promontory, 534 m absolute elevation, is positioned at approximately 2 km north of Pietroasa Mică village. On top of this peak, vestiges from Eneolithic (Cucuteni B), Bronze Age (Monteoru culture) and 4th – 3rd centuries BC were found, the most impressive ones being those dated during the 2nd century BC – 1st century AD period; in this last interval the site had known a dynamic evolution – from unfortified settlement, to fortress and then, to sacred enclosure. Archaeological researches were made inside and outside the wall in order to verify the stratigraphic sequence and investigate discovered archaeological features. During 2014, the team excavated inside the wall-enclosed area features belonging to Bronze and Iron Ages. Four dwelling structures (238 and 250 in trench S12, and 241 and 241 in trench S11), four pits (237 and 244 in trench S12 and 239 and 240 in trench S11) and a fireplace (C253 in trench S12) were ascribed to Bronze Age. The excavation of 1st century BC pits C204, C228 and C229 – known from previous field campaign was finalized, while 6 features dated in the second Iron Age were new findings. Among these, 3 were circular stone structures of the mound deposit type dated in the 1st century AD. Two new trenches were opened outside the wall, towards north-west, on the access saddle (S32, S33). On this occasion there were documented for the first time in Gruiu Dării materials belonging to the Neolithic culture Starčevo-Criş. They were found in the filling of a Cucuteni B ditch.
