Summary/Abstract: The double figurine was discovered by chance close to the Gumelniţa settlement of Căscioarele – “Ostrovel”. The burnt-clay item represents a couple consisting of a feminine anthropomorphic figurine and male anthropomorphic figurine. The two silhouettes are sitting on a bench and the male one has his right hand over the women’s shoulders. The item is not one of a kind, since similar anthropomorphic figurines have been also been found in the Gumelniţa - culture settlement from Măgura Gumelniţa (Fig. 1/3) and Sultana – “Malul Roşu” (Fig. 1/2), which allows us to say that the double anthropomorphic figurine found at Căscioarele - "Ostrovel" belongs to the Gumelniţa culture – phase A2 (or phase B1). As for the significance of these items, we believe the double anthropomorphic figurines are figurative representations of the archetypal couple, namely the plastic image of a cosmogonic conception.
