Summary/Abstract: One of the most prominent Polish Salesian composers, a representative of the so-called cecilianism in church music, was Fr. Antoni Chlondowski (1884-1963), actually Antoni Hlond. He signed all his musical works under a changed name (artistic pseudonym), because of his brother, also a Salesian, Fr. Cardinal August Hlond, Primate of Poland. It is worth noting that the third of the Hlond brothers, Ignacy, was also a Salesian. Chlondowski is widely known among church musicians as the author of outstanding works of church and liturgical music and secular music (he wrote them nearly four thousand), and also as the founder of the famous Salesian Organist School in Przemyśl, which operated from 1916 to 1963, when in a brutal way it was taken over and liquidated by the communist authorities.
