Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the role and place of drama in foreign language teaching today. The implementation of drama texts in the English language classroom enhances the development of the students’ communicative competence in a number of ways – it improves their speaking skills and enriches their vocabulary, it develops their social competence and collaborative learning skills, it broadens their background knowledge about the English drama masterpieces. The interaction with art fosters the process of rethinking of moral and ethical values, and boosts the self-esteem and the personal development of the learners.
