Summary/Abstract: The study investigates the issue of stylistic equivalence both in the theory of translation in general and in the particular case of Czech-Russian translation of texts for special purposes (instructions, information etc.). Stylistic equivalence is regarded as an intermediate stage between the formal level of equivalence and the pragmatic level. Language-specific stylistic devices are discussed to illustrate the necessity to include the level of stylistic equivalence in the proces of translation. In particular, five different stylistic transformations are proposed in case of Czech-Russian translation. Thus, translation is regarded as a complex transformation of the original text with respect to the stylistic stereotype and preferences of the respective genre in the target culture.
