Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the motif of exclusus amator in Greek and Latin, as well as modern poetry. The author traces the development of paraclausithyrion from its early forms in Archaic Greek poetry, through Hellenistic epigrams and bucolics, to Roman elegy, by comparing its form and meaning to poetic texts of ancient prayers, epithalamia and iambos. A modern paraclausithyrion, sonnet The Wall by Ivan V. Lalić, refashions the ancient texts in the spirit of both Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian sacral poetry.
