On the Agronyms – Derivatives of the Suffix -in- in Marijampolė County

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to take a closer look at the part of toponymy of Marijampolė County recorded in the interwar period – agronyms as the derivatives of the suffix -in- . Based on the valuable additional information recorded in Field-Name questionnaires, the author sought to identify the type of formation of the place names under analysis, to identify and name the common words, which can be associated with the etymologised agronym forms and from which they can be derived, to supplement and revise the existing interpretations of the formation and origins of the place names in the southern area of the Lithuanian language to the most accurate way possible. The research data can be included into the context of the research of the Lithuanian and Baltic linguistics.
