Summary/Abstract: The text generalizes part of the results from a large scale field research carried out by quantitative and qualitative methods on the Muslim societies in Bulgaria. I posed the accent on two of them – Bulgarian speaking Muslims (Pomacs) and the Muslims from Roma ghettos because of the widely spread opinion that they incline to radicalization. The biography of one of the interviewed is followed and the opinions of many others on religion, politics and society have been analyzed. The specific features of the “old” (traditional for the Balkans) and the new (global) Islam have been outlined. The (im)possibility of reformation in Islam – thinking about the Revival as coming back to the ideals of predecessors - has been considered. The following conclusion has been made – there are not evidences about radicalization but potential radicalization in the future is possible not because of amplifying the non-traditional religiosity but because of social factors – poverty, marginalization, ghettoization, illiteracy.
