Archivization of the Body. Photographs of Cindy Sherman and Alina Szapocznikow

Summary/Abstract: The author discusses the role of the body in works made by Cindy Sherman the American photographer and Alina Szapocznikow the Polish sculptress. In intersecting different perspectives: the anthropology of the body, anthropology of visual culture and performance studies the author emphasises different strategies utilised in feminist art. Focusing on stereotypes, which are copied and then solidified into contemporary culture, the author’s main analysis and emphasis is focused on the discussion of the different mechanisms of mass media and images of the body. The author also interprets photographs of Alina Szapocznikow in her atelier as a performative act of the body that leaves traces in the piece of art.
