Summary/Abstract: The eighties and nineties of the 20th century saw the systematic control of the librarianship and bibliographic terminology. During this period, the specialists of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania together with the linguist Stasys Keinys and other professionals accomplished an essential terminographic achievement: the preparation and publication of four fascicles of “The Vocabulary of Librarianship and Bibliographic Terms” (Bibliotekininkystės ir bibliografijos terminų žodynas). The fascicles contain more than two thousand Lithuanian standardized terms representing the field of publication and document types as well as terms regarding cataloguing, bibliography, the entire cycle of library collection building, conservation of documents and collection types. This stage of control of librarianship and bibliographic terminology serves as an example of successful interinstitutional collaboration; it introduced a new practice of suggesting standardized and new terms not only on the basis of principles of terminology but also considering peculiarities of library practice.
