Summary/Abstract: The article aims at analyzing terminology planning in documentary communication, the scope of which involves all areas related to creation, publishing, processing, preservation and access of documents, and determines the methods applied and results achieved in terminology planning and terminography. Documentary communication covers a whole range of fields: documentology, library science, book science, bibliography, theory of scientific information, typography, classification, information services, information resources, databases, etc. The article provides an overview of terminology planning methods applied in the field of documentary communication, researches the contribution of individuals and institutions to the creation of Lithuanian terminology of documentary communication and analyzes the development of the main Lithuanian terminology resources for this field during the last two decades. The analysis performed allows concluding that four terminology planning methods have been applied in this field in order to lay the groundwork for normative Lithuanian terminology and set the basis for its further development. Terminology work in documentary communication covers creation and normalization of terms, compilation of dictionaries, preparation of terminology standards and creation of databases, though there is no institution responsible for co-ordination of terminology management.
