Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The article presents the theoretical basis, principles and cooperation assumptions of two basic educational environments – family and school, whose tasks include shaping valuable personality traits and aiming at optimal and comprehensive development of children and teenagers. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The presented research problem looks for an answer to the question: what are the fundamental assumptions, principles and determinants of contemporary cooperation of school and family, which aims at optimizing the processes of upbringing and educating children and teenagers. The methods used include the analysis of literature, the synthesis of the conclusions and the review of scientific reports from the researched area. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The assumptions of pedagogy include a view that there exists a need for innovative and creative cooperation between school and family, which should be of multi‐agent nature and based on cooperation, collaboration and partnership realized in a dialogue. Referring to scientific studies, the article presents concepts and principles of cooperation between these two communities, its current status, the benefits cooperation brings and determinants restricting it. RESEARCH RESULTS: The analyses show that family and school must work together in order to create a harmonized and coherent system of educational and upbringing influences imposed on the young generation to provide an optimal level of their development and educational needs. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMENDATIONS: Cooperation between school and family, which aims at mutual support, should develop its own harmonized model (system) of educational activities based on accepted ideas and assumptions as well as expectations of educational partners, which should be connected by symmetric and healthy relationship and commitment to the execution of common goals and tasks.
