Summary/Abstract: Demographic growth of Belgrade is determined by its geographical location, which is both geographical and historical category, and by the physical – geographical characteristics of the area. The demographic growth of Belgrade had crucial influence on the character of settlements and the distribution of inhabitants, on the migration movements, on the population structure and its distribution. The intensive distribution of population is the characteristic of the area of the city of Belgrade. It is an outcome of historical, political, socio-economic events and the characteristics of geographical and natural features. The migrations were the main factor which influenced the process of distribution and re-distribution of population, having an impact, at the same time, on the transformation in economic, social and cultural feature of this area.
