Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the research is to study the specifics of development of performing interpretation in rock music. Their implementation involves the problem of classification of the main types of rock interpretations and identification of their correlations with the term "cover version". Research methodology involves using the comparative method and analysis and synthesis techniques for the study of specific text, subject to interpretation and finding characteristic features of rock music. Scientific novelty lies in the study of phenomena of interpretation in rock music. It identifies four types of interpreting of rock compositions: 1) performing interpretation of the band – concert and studio,2) amateur interpretation, 3) cover version within the styles of rock music, 4) interpretation of arranger, leading to change of the style for classical crossover, pop and even jazz. Conclusions. Rock music is a complex entity that includes many styles. Most of the songs can exist in studio and concert versions, which will differ from each other, even providing that they are performed by the same band. Interpretation of the works, which can be attributed to the rock culture, promotes development of new performing versions that sometimes can compete with the original. The concept cover version should be used when it comes to interpretation of the song, made not by the author, but the main performers and other musicians. Specificity of interpretation in rock music is that the text is presented not as a complete musical notation, but as audio and video record. The work in rock music has signs of dynamism, characterized by procedurality
