Summary/Abstract: Arzuhals, appeals to the authorities, belong to the special genre of the Bosnian Alhamiado literature. They represent precious historical testimonies on socio-political issues in Bosnia under the Ottoman rule. The first poem of our Alhamiado literature, which has been found on the Bosnian Eyalet territory up to now, is Hajji Jusuf Livnjak’s arzuhal dating from 1618/1619. This paper considers the conditions within the Ottoman judicial system at the beginning of the 17th century and presents the arzuhal, its transliteration, transcription and Bosnian translation of the verses written in Ottoman Turkish. Since the protocol of the Kadi of Imotski has not been preserved, we do not know if the authorities complied with this arzuhal, but the author’s effort to stand against injustice is praiseworthy.
