Summary/Abstract: First of all, it should be mentioned that an increasingly growing concern for community's collaboration is currently noted in the states of the European union. The development of local communities is relevant in lithuania as well. Usually, the concept of local communities is discussed on the public or selfgovernment level. The analysis of the local community can also be based on the principle of subsidiarity (independent action, complementarity). To be more precise, the assumption that state institutions should not interfere there should be taken into consideration. In other words, the community itself manages better. In this respect, the role of the church (the parish) is especially substantial; unfortunately, this area is still poorly investigated in Lithuania. The aim of the article "the role of Parish in local community" is to present certain results from the re-searches "local community 2005" and "local community 2006". These results disclosed the idiosyncrasy of parish behaviour, as well as the connections and relations of the parish with the local community. The researches revealed some important results. First of all, respondents of all age groups admitted the influence of the church, especially when getting people together. Moreover, respondents from the age group of sixtyone and older consider such influence to be unmitigated. The research also revealed the possibilities for optimisation of the ac-tivity of local community. These possibilities are, first of all, related to the positive role of church in lithuania, especially when shaping social links. It is believed that such social links can and will be created more optimally if the leaders of every parish have proper educational and administrative preparation. To conclude it should be said that the researches "local community 2005" and "local community 2006" are very important and relevant in the following aspects: humanistic - value related (shows that the role of church in postmodernistic lithuania is very important in forming social ties), educative (certain educative knowledge is needed in order to act socially) and, finally, managerial (only systematic managerial actions help each parish to function effectively in the local community).
