Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is to follow the presence of Henryk Sienkiewicz in the “Tygodnik Ilustrowany” (“The Illustrated Weekly”) between 1905 and 1916. The comparison of the analysed issues’ content indicates that the writer was not mentioned in the weekly very frequently. In appropriately profiled texts, which can be thematically divided into: literary, social, and political, a distance towards the famous artist and his achievements can be perceived. It is manifested by refraining from elaborate descriptions and characterisations or simply in lack of detailed presentation of Sienkiewicz’s achievements. The writer, mentioned in the weekly “by default”, remains in the shadow of other authors (e.g. Bolesław Prus) and events.
