Summary/Abstract: The present study investigate the reliability and validity of the Bulgarian version of the Multidimensional Perfectionism Cognitions Inventory (MPCI – Kobori & Tanno, 2005). The factor analysis confirm three-factor structure. The first component is “Concern over Mistakes“; the second component is “Personal Standards“ and the third component is “Pursuit of Perfection“. The all subscales show good internal consistency. The convergent validity is examined by inspecting the scales’ correlations with subscales of Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS; Frost et al., 1990). The results show significant associations among “Personal Standards“ and adaptive dimensions of perfectionism (personal standards and organization) and significant negative association with depression. The subscale “Concern over Mistakes“ show higher correlations with maladaptive aspects of perfectionism (concern over mistakes and doubt about actions) and depression. This findings indicate that “Personal Standards“ reflects positive cognitions, while “Concern over Mistakes“ reflects negative cognitions. The inventory has emerged as a psychometrically sound instrument and is of potential utility in studying and understanding of positive and negative cognitions in perfectionism.
