Summary/Abstract: The article analyses new formalistic aspects of synesthesia interpretation which gradually emerge in art practices and symbolism aesthetics. Formalistic tendencies of symbolism aesthetics are directly related to the development of musicality concept. The philosophy of romantic art questions the subjective expression of aesthetic experience, whereas the new interpretation of synesthesia plumbs into the problems of art forms cognition. The abstractedness and formalism of symbolism opens the modern art perspectives. Contemporary theoreticians of synesthesia postulates synesthesia as an idiosyncratic way of representation. They base their theories on various scientific and aesthetic paradigms.
