Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the change in the understanding of national identity and new challenges that national identity faces in 21st century society. The article proposes that the identity of ethnic minorities, which is constantly changing and demanding supporting structures, is one of the main productive elements of present day mega-socium. At the start of the new millennium, the role of ethnic minorities is gaining more relevance and becoming the principal vector of the processes of political change.
