Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the metalogical level contained in the lectures on logic delivered at Vilnius University in 1596 by Professor Diego Ortiz. The author of the article focuses on the main characteristics and principal theoretic sources of this level. The article concludes with issues dealing with the status and object of logic. Ortiz entered several scholastic disputes. Namely, he interpreted status of logic on the basis of an eclectic conception which was very popular in the XVI –XVIII centuries. This conception integrated the Occamist position which considered logic to be a certain kind of practical science, and the Aristotelian approach which regarded logic as the common instrument of the scholastic sciences. As for issue of logic’s object, Ortiz was faithful to the standpoint of Thomistic realism which the rendered status of that object to real entities, i.e., operations of human intellect performed in proper way. As regards logic’s origin Ortiz followed the scholastic tradition and derived logic from reflexive human experience.
