Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to the activities of the Russian Orthodox missionaries in North America. The chronological scope of the study covered the period from the late eighteenth to the early twentieth century, that is the time of the over-century-old evolution of the structures of the Russian Church in America. The Orthodox mission heritage is thoroughly presented basing on the life and work of the Archbishop of Alaska and North America, the future Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Tikhon (Bellavin). Motivations, activities programme, methods, and above all, the results of activities undertaken by the priest in the area of the United States – were analysed against the needs and expectations of the development potential of the local community. However, the present author focused her main attention on preaching and organisational level of Tikhon’s activities as well as on the evaluation of their results in the context of the spread of the Orthodox Church throughout the huge territory of North America.
