Summary/Abstract: This article is an introduction to the origins of Indian theatre. It describes its essence and verifies thesis about the relationship between theatre and sacred space. The author used the achievements of many scientific disciplines, including phenomenology of religion, aesthetics, theater studies and anthropology.
