Summary/Abstract: My interest in the question of social cohesion and cultural diversity comes from my research into the causes and consequences of migration, in particular the case of Sweden. In countries with high immigration the solution to managing societal differences between various groups of people that have arisen as a consequence of migration has been termed integration. However, there is much confusion about what we actually mean by integration. At another level, the European Union, which now has 25 member states and more to come in the future, and will no doubt welcome Bosnia-Herzegovina as a member in due time, also sees integration of the different European states into one common Supranational entity as a guiding objective and goal.
