Summary/Abstract: The study analyses the main factors influencing innovative activities in the enterprise sector in Poland. Despite a high increase in research and development expenditure achieved over the last two decades, Polish companies in 2010 were still occupying bottom places in the European Union in terms of innovation indicators, innovation intensity and absolute innovation investment. This is mainly due to low availability of external financial sources supporting research and development activities and tax deductions in that area, low quality and coherence of the existing rule of law and complex administrative procedures connected with starting and doing business. Without a significant improvement in the above-mentioned areas, creation of a proper innovation support model, which will contribute to increase in its scale and intensity, will not be possible.
