Summary/Abstract: The economic development lasting over half of the century in the world was stopped by the financial crisis. In spite of efforts made, results of the anti-crisis action are still not satisfactory. An active fiscal policy of the state applied already earlier is not working, globalisation based on the principles of neoliberalism is also causing many stipulations. According to the author, in this situation, the social market economy can be an effective alternative. The proposed economic system is based on the competition between market entities, the stable monetary policy of the state, the freedom of the individual and universal ethical-moral principles. In accordance with the principles of ordoliberalism, the social safety and the social equity are crucial issues of the human existence. Their real accomplishment should be assured by the presence of the state in the socio-economic life.
