Summary/Abstract: Worsening of the economic conditions, intensification of negative trends in the labour market, and continuance of the process of reducing the fiscal imbalance have recently resulted in a lower rate of population’s income growth and individual consumption in Poland. These phenomena have not been free of their impact on food consumption. An aim of the author’s deliberations is to provide a picture of the main directions of changes of the demand for food in Poland in 2009-2012 in macro- and microeconomic terms. In her work, the author used the CSO’s macroeconomic data and results of surveys of households’ budgets. A source of information was also results of the author’s own analyses of the market statistics. In the studies, there were used mainly methods of the statistical and economic analysis. The carried out research surveys showed that, in result of a substantial weakening of the economic activity, there took place in Poland breakdown of consumption, decline in real expenses on foods, reduction of retail sale, and volume of consumption of food products in households.
