Books, Libraries and the Dominicans in the 13th and 14th Centuries

Summary/Abstract: The realisation of the basal mission of the Dominicans stipulated by their Constitutions – preaching for the sake of salvation of souls – is necessarily connected to the book culture. For the Order of Preachers the book naturally became an instrument of work, as well as a powerful weapon in spiritual struggle. For this reason, Dominican libraries played a truly important role and co-created the history of this institution.
