Summary/Abstract: An aim of considerations is to present EC subsidies as a condition servicing development of woman self-employment in Poland by way of presentation of the popularity of applying for financial support in the group in question as well as the chosen examples of spending the subsidies received. In her article, the author presented results of quantitative research carried out with the help of an anonymous questionnaire-based survey by electronic way and results of qualitative research – case studies. The self-employed women, constituting the research group, as the most frequent barrier considered insufficient financial means for establishment or development of their own firm. The group of approx. 56% of respondents applied for financial support for company establishment or development; in the course of interviews carried out, it was emphasised that if not that assistance, they would not have decided to run their business. The case studies described in the article may be a good example for other individuals already having their firm or only planning establishment thereof. The article may also serve overcoming social anxieties concerning applying for financial support caused, inter alia, by lack of confidence in public institutions. The article is of the research nature.
