Summary/Abstract: Knowledge has always been important for economic growth and social development but in a modern times knowledge becomes its dominant structural characteristics, because new economic theories emphasize the importance of education, research, innovation, technology development and human capital. There is talk about the economy based on knowledge (knowledge based economy) in which the wealth of a country lies in the knowledge of its people and their skills and abilities to apply that knowledge. The business world increasingly recognize the expertise of employees as the largest capital which leading to the development of a new concept known as knowledge management. Knowledge is seen as an asset that has a market value and requires investment in order to successfully manage the knowledge. As acquiring new knowledge implies a continuous learning process, learning is a key component in the transformation of traditional organizations in the learning organization as a way of creating a knowledge society. The main objective of this paper is to show how in the processes of learning and knowledge management important place belong to libraries through contributions to generating new value for the organization as well as partners in the creation, sharing and use of knowledge. So they also become at the learning organisations long-term segment of the scientific and professional heritage within organizations and society in general.
