Summary/Abstract: The article presents the concept of multifaceted management of tourism in a region by implementingthe European Tourism Indicator System for Sustainable Destination developed by the EuropeanCommission. This comprehensive approach seems to be an innovative solution to the question ofmanagement of tourism which is a priority sector for the regional development, in the strict meaningof the word, for many regions of Europe. The article presents the structure of ETIS and the ideaof its implementation – understood as a process – along with the notes from the regions whichparticipated in the pilot phase of the project. The parallel assumption of the article is to disseminatethe idea of sustainable tourism management in a region via the implementation of ETIS, which usesan interdisciplinary approach, thus enabling the competitiveness of the region to increase on thepresent-day, highly saturated, global tourism market.
