Summary/Abstract: Sustainable consumption and production have been the topic of concern of the environmental policy in many countries across the world for more than 20 years, particularly in the countries of the European Union. Despite this fact, there have still been observed negative for the environment effects of ever growing consumption caused by the economic development and growth of societies. Many strategies for environmental protection, whose aim is to improve efficacy of resources and ecological effectiveness of processes and products, are not able to fully oppose the negative impact on the environment triggered by the growth of consumption. Nevertheless, there are countries where the programme of sustainable consumption is implemented by the whole society and the problem of environmental protection against man’s harmful activities is not alien to anybody. Finland is an example of such economy. An aim of considerations is to present the strategy of sustainable development in Finland. In her article, the author described the Finland’s National Programme of Sustainable Production and Consumption as well as the measures undertaken by the government and NGOs encouraging implementing this programme. Moreover, she showed the perspective of sustainable development in next years. She used information from the Eurostat’s database as well as data bases of energetic effectiveness Odyssee and the data collected by the Finnish company dealing with the market for ecological food in Finland, Pro Luomu, and the Statistics Finland.
