Summary/Abstract: The term “egzorta” derives from the Latin word exhortatio, meaning admonishing, encouraging. This notion is associated with the religious-moral education. In the Habsburg monarchy and in the interwar period in Lvov schools egzorta was a part of teaching religion as a school subject. Jewish pupils attending maintained schools also used it. A teacher of the religion gave egzorta in the school or the synagogue. One from most wellknown to the preacher giving egzorta there was a rabbi Samuel Guttman.
