Summary/Abstract: Education is one of the basic pedagogical notions – it is also the most general and non-uniform of them and it can have many different forms. Each of them is connected with a specific idea (ideas), which is its driving and vital force, determining the practical educational solutions. Adopting an idea is like taking a compass into one's hand – it facilitates safely moving around in an unknown, complex and multilevel space. It facilitates but it does not prescribe what should be done. While entering into the world of pedagogical diversity, a person recognizes the richness of its meanings and its variety; one discovers multiple ways that lead to valuable social reality. A person realizes that there is not one educational idea that could lead all of the participants of the cognitive process on the only certain and right way. The person that is being educated can be „lead” according to the ideas of, for example, New Education, cultural, personal, existential, intercultural or postmodern pedagogy.
