Modernistic displays of mental disintegration… On The Dreamer by Władysław Stanisław Reymont

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to analyse and interpret Władysław Stanisław Reymont’s novelistic sketch entitled The Dreamer. The article opens with background information on the socio-cultural context of the modernist period of Young Po¬land (Młoda Polska), the transformations of its novels and its psychological interests. In the next part, the author offers a short presentation of Reymont’s literary output, which is followed by a detailed analysis of the main protagonist’s behavio¬ur with regard to the symptoms of his mental disintegration (dereism, dysphoria, depersonalisation).
