Summary/Abstract: The text of the Qur’an mentions the messenger Idrīs, s.w.s., twice: in the surah Maryam (Maryam, 19:56-57) and in the surah The Prophets (Al-Anbiyā, 21:85-86). In this article the author presents the Qur’anic text and the classical commentaries of the Qur’an that have reference to who was Idrīs, s.w.s., meaning of his name as well as the time of his mission and the role he had in the prophethood’s history of the mankind.
