University of Bucharest in archive sources. 1857-1869

Summary/Abstract: This book, redacted using exclusively documents from the archives of Bucharest, presents some of the most important related moments of the beginning of the building of the University of Bucharest. After a series of tests, in 1857 adopted the projects of the architect Alex Orăscu. We present the analysis of the modality to implement the following years, his project. The severe financial problems are constituted as initial obstacles to the construction of the building. In addition: misunderstandings between various architects, modifications to projects and specifications, and inefficiency of the committees giving their opinions. Finally, having passed the obstacles, the University of Bucharest was officially inaugurated in December 1869 by Prince Charles I.
