Summary/Abstract: Based on Annick Percheron’s ideas, the memory of key events of family history is supposed to be transmitted from generation to generation and may significantly affect the political socialization of the young generation. A research project on political socialization in the family (2009–2012) has provided an opportunity to test this theory in Hungary. The survey of a national sample of 18-year-olds and their parents found that more than 50% of Hungarian families do not keep a live memory of their key events. This article analyses the maintained memory and the factors contributing to the continuity and discontinuity of family memory.
