Summary/Abstract: The article contains a reconstruction of the theme of the alien in The Star Diaries by Stanisław Lem, with special emphasis on The Eighth Voyage. The Author treats this theme as a starting point for existential considerations, and—by reference to the work of Bernard Waldenfels—also for cultural and civilizational considerations.
