Summary/Abstract: The article contains a detailed analysis of the lexis and stylistic means used by Sienkiewicz inhis descriptions of travel and travelling. The excerption included the collection of all 1,401 preserved private letters written by Sienkiewicz; the collection contains nearly 3,000 printed pages in a collective publication of the correspondence of Sienkiewicz edited by Maria Bokszczanin. In the collected material there are over 300 words and expressions of different character, used over a thousand times.The research has revealed that the accounts of the Sienkiewicz peregrinations in most cases are objective in character. The writer used words with precise meanings, which refer directly to the reality. The stylistic means typical of artistic style used in descriptions of travelling is not too numerous. Most of the registered semantic transformations are comparisons, epithets and euphemisms.
