Summary/Abstract: The middle of the 19th century opened up versatile possibilities to apply many achievements of the science of physics into practice; therefore, a number of Gymnasiums took efforts to provide their physics study rooms with new equipment or to renovate the old one. Another impetus for this process was the valuable experience of the north-western part of the country, as, according to the regulations of the Educational Commission, education in Lithuania was centrally reformed in the last quarter of the 18th century. Vilnius educational district was the first in the Russian Empire to fully provide physics study rooms with modern equipment. This was the responsibility of a famous scientist Emil Lenz (1804-1865), who at that time worked in the physics laboratory at St. Petersburg's Academy of Sciences. VVell-organized physics study rooms in Vilnius district partially compensated for the educational lossesafter the closure of Vilnius University. Thus the article, on the basis of the archival documents, aims to review the attempts of Vilnius educational district to practically implementthe latest achievements of the science of physics into the teaching/learning process. The article also presents a list of physics study room equipment, translated by L. Klimka from the Russian language.
