Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the basic principles of current records arrangement, which depends on written instructions and the system of current records arrangement itself. Retention schedules in connection with the classification scheme are stated as its condition. In this paper, the author deals with the arrangement of current re­cords in main offices, which is a condition for ensuring swift and accurate access to the required document. He stresses the importance of the cooperation with archives to achieve optimal arrangement of current records. Records management has to be based on the Slovene legislation, and written instructions, issued by state administrative bodies and local communities in association with archives, are a condition for well managed current records. The author defines the caracteristics of written intructions, which are connected to retention schedules and the filing system (classification scheme). Retention schedules are presented on the example of accountancy and construction records.
