New collocations as carriers of foreignness — the determinants of translation strategies

Summary/Abstract: The present paper deals with the characteristics of Russian-to-Polish translation of novel wordcombinations. The main goal of this research is to define linguistic and extralinguistic factors, which determine the choice of translation strategies applied to new collocations. The author examines words which underwent semantic change and collocations based on such neosemanticisms. The data unequivocally shows that collocations play an active role in creating contemporary political discourse and that new word-combinations can also be carriers of linguistic and cultural foreignness in a TL-text.
