Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes a selection of issues concerning the challenges and tasks facing education and schools - in the face of turbulent change and the needs of the modern labor market. It also discusses the issues of preparing students for independent educational and professional career planning and through the development of career competences and building the student's personal career capital. An emphasis is put on certain aspects of the indicated issues especially on the importance of developing subjectivity, creativity and innovation of students, as well as on the stimulation of their psycho social well-being. It is theorized as well that these competencies are an important part of building an individual career capital and of better preparation to plan and manage their own career, particularly in the context of the conditions of the modern labor market.
