Summary/Abstract: One of the topical problems of our society is to encourage elderly people to participate in community life, shifting their wisdom and experience to work which is oriented towards others’ welfare, creating conditions for cognition, self-realisation, etc. The present article introduces psycho-physiological peculiarities, re-socialisation and busyness problems of elderly people as well as the activity of The Third Age University. In order to find out whether the activity of The Third Age University meets the requirements of elderly people, what possibilities of improving the activity exist and what personal qualities of those who attend this university are, we surveyed elderly people both attending and not attending The Third Age University. The results of the survey show that the main motives of attending this university for elderly attending people are the following: cognitive (wish to learn something new, interesting), motives for communication (wish to find new friends). However, other characteristic motives for attending The Third Age University for elderly students are these: process (they like to think, contemplate), prestige (they attend because other people add value and regard them more), narrow social motives (no tuition fees, no grades). Elderly people (both attending and non-attending this university) value the activity of The Third Age University (topics of lectures, amount of them, administration) positively.
