Practical Aspects of the Interpretation of Law and Law Enforcement Raised by the Interaction of Different Legal Cultures in the European Union

Summary/Abstract: The arrival in the EU over the past two years of an unprecedented number of migrants, mostly Muslims, has had important consequences in the legal field. The interaction – mostly conflictual - between the European law and the Islamic legal culture raises in practice various difficulties regarding the interpretation of law and law enforcement for the state authorities and legal practitioners, from issues ranging from the recognition of the religious tribunal decisions in family matters (in the UK), to social integration (in Germany) or food standards in the refugees centres in Austria. We hope that bringing up these issues will be of interest for the Romanian jurists, given the fact that Romania has accepted in the name of the European solidarity to take in a significant number of migrants.
