Summary/Abstract: Information has become the most imminent factor in the research of modern society. Those societies that are able to produce a larger amount of information today are the most developed societies. The production of information is the basic form of production and creation of social wealth. It is indisputable that information is material. Strange thing being the fact that the essence, the nature of information is unknown, still of reach. Life, energy and other similar important concepts together with information are being elaborated, described, measured but their nature still eludes us. Information can be measured. To be more precise, we can measure how many bits have been transferred from one point to another. Just as we ca measure the effects of gravity, we can measure the amount of data being transmitted. What is being transmitted still escapes from us. Information can be described, defined in different ways: for example, as the third dimension of the cosmos. This definition opens up problems of gnoseological and epistemological nature. Is information a modeling force? Does information give form, create pictures, or it is just an illusion conceived by man? That is one out of many questions that arise in connection with characterization of information. Information, although not as yet defined in its essence, as a concept or an entity successfully functions in daily life and scientific research.
