Summary/Abstract: The Spanish Language Olympiad is a new initiative in Poland, where many other school competitions take place. Yet, this Olympiad is not only a competition, but a complex project which consists of many innovative tools and events related to the language and culture of Spanish speaking countries. Thanks to those initiatives, the participants, who are young talented Spanish language learners from secondary schools, get the opportunity to enrich their knowledge and develop their autonomy. Among the tools that are aimed at helping students become more independent there is the Moodle e-learning platform, where users can find and download materials such as interviews, lesson plans or sample tests. All those pupils who are eager to get more information are invited to participate in additional events, such as workshops, chats with experts or different kinds of competitions. The use of these innovative tools was evaluated at the end of second edition of the Olympiad, indicating a high level of their utility as well as a clear need for creating more such opportunities for pupils and for their teachers.
