Summary/Abstract: The subject of this paper is the future of television, in fact, the analysis of the arriving changes which will happen to this medium in the nearest future. Its future brings some changes, mostly technological – it’s about its digitalization, possibility to become multimedial and interactive, to offer better quality in production and distribution of the program. Emphasizing its new possibilities, it is often considered that the traditional television is dying, and the new media is arising. The fact that television has been changing technologically from its beginning and that digitalization of the television, essentially, represents the development of the existing media, not rise of the new one, precisely, its adjustment to the changes brought by new technologies and to demands of the market – is often overlooked. Also, the offer of the television program is not changing – those are still the same forms of the program. The issue of this paper is to provide a comprehensive view on the digitalization of television and, to some extent, to compare raising changes and possible consequences, in fact, to show that the technological change of television doesn’t mean a rise of the new media; that technically new is not necessary essentially better and that, maybe, the average spectator just wants to watch television in the way s/he used to.
