Summary/Abstract: Today with globalization and with the countries starting to come closer, it is not adequate to learn just one foreign language in economical, social and cultural areas. Depending on this, countries renovate their policies by supporting with an optional second foreign language in addition to a compulsory one in the multicultural framework. Second foreign language is learned after the first foreign language is learned and it takes the starting point from the first foreign language. The first foreign language is always the starting point for the students who are learning the second foreign language. If the students have learned a foreign language, they start the second foreign language with the habits and strategies they acquired when they learned the first one, get assistance from the first one. In this study, it is aimed to figure out whether the students who are learning German as a second foreign language in Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University are able to make connections between the first foreign language or another language, which learning strategies they use related to first foreign language, whether there is a connection between their motivation related to their first foreign language and the learning strategies while they are learning German thanks to questionnaire application. The data collected via questionnaire is evaluated using SPSS 15.0 package programme.
